Baby GIRL Kincaid

Another wordy update, and pictures will come tomorrow because they are on our other computer. I will also try for a belly shot since I'm hard to miss these days and asked constantly how far along I am :-).

Yesterday we went for a fun Ultrasound almost 2 hours away in Paradise, CA. It was a birthday present for Mike because he has been dying to find out the gender of our little one. We had a wonderful ultrasound technician who made our experience even more beautiful! There was one large room that we went into that was nice and dark, and Mike and Brayden say down while I layed on a nice cushy and comfy table. Within minutes we heard the words "It's a GIRL!" and couldnt believe it! We both had hoped to have a girl this time around since we are only planning on having two children, but had plenty of pros for either gender! When she announced that we were having a girl it was all grins ear to ear in the room.

Our little girl was happy to show she is a girl. She showed us four separate times as if to warn us ahead of time that she expects a lot of pink and purple in her wardrobe! From what we have heard from friends and family, we know there can be concern if a girl is truely a girl or just hiding boy parts, but our ultrasound tech was awesome to explain to use exactly what we were seeing and that in fact our little one is for sure a girl!

Little Girl was a little less forthcoming with her face and for the entire 45 minutes got to see her, stayed tucked up into the corner of my placenta. There needs to be a 1/2 inch pocket of fluid between the baby and the placenta in order to see the baby clearly in 3d, and baby girl was NOT willing to budge. Jumping jacks, pokes and prods from the ultrasound tech, tootsie rolls, and even going to the bathroom did not help get her to move. She was happy where she was and showed us her stubborn streak at only 20 weeks along :-). Like I told the technician, our kids had a 50/50 shot at getting blue or green eyes, but they had a 100% chance of coming out stubborn!

We got to see beautiful shots of her feet, kicking legs, umbilical cord, chubby tummy, arms, a hand, and her face sporting "Angelina Jolie" lips but tucking her chin the whole time too! She even showed us she is going to be a talkative little one and probably a little chubbo too because she was moving her mouth a lot as well!

She weighed in at 11 ounces and was just perfect in measurement for her gestational age. They showed my due date two days later than it actually is, so she's doing great! Her heartbeat was strong at 153 bpm and we loved being able to see her little heart flutter too!

We got a video tape of the whole thing from the place we went (included in our package) that we have enjoyed watching bits and pieces of yesterday and today. We also got a DVD of pictures, over 40, from our ultrasound as well!

Brayden did really really well and kept talking about the "baby on the chee-bee" (baby on the TV). He was super patient and quiet and well mannered but was a little concerned about why I had to lay down and he had to sit with Daddy. He looked at my tummy, and then at the screen a couple times as if trying to piece it together.  Today he's talked about the baby a couple times even mentioning in his own words that she isnt here yet when I asked him if he would share his blanket with her!

Mike and I thankfully had the easier decision as far as baby names go, because we already had our girl name picked out awhile ago. What I didnt expect was us to disagree on spelling of her first name as much as we have :)! We decided that since its a treat enough to be having a little girl to add to our family, we would go ahead and share the name we have picked out with everyone rather than wait. Once we nail down the spelling, we will share it and then share it on the blog as well!!

The Big Sibling

In just 5 short months, Brayden will be a big brother! He will have enjoyed 3 years of being the baby and the only child (he will always be my baby, as will baby #2) but now is moving on to bigger and better things. Something I have been thinking about, and am planning on taking advantage of, is Brayden's desire to be a helper. I love that at a young age he really does have a servants heart (much like his Daddy) and loves to help around the house. Whether its helping unload the dishwasher, moving stuff from the washer to the dryer, putting his clothes in the laundry basket, helping me wipe things down with a wet rag, getting us things we ask for, etc. he just loves to help and gets such satisfaction in being needed. I really see that being a plus for him becoming a big sibling. I know he will love being able to bring me diapers, help give the baby baths, eventually help "feed" the baby, help put the babies clothes in the laundry, play with the baby, be concerned when the baby is upset, and a long list of other things. I also know he will love having things he can do that the baby cant do yet, like sitting in a big person chair, walking instead of having to be in a stroller, and hopefully going potty on the toilet. I am having so much fun thinking of ideas to really encourage and promote what a "big boy" and great big brother he is and will be to this next babe.

Something I have been cherishing over the last couple of weeks is Brayden loving on the baby. I still dont think he quite understands it just yet, but jumps on the opportunity to hug, pat, and kiss my belly and tell the baby he loves it. Though at times he will try to kiss Daddy's belly in confusion ;-). I know as mine continues to grow Brayden will understand more the concept that a baby is in there but I am so happy with how he is catching onto it now! I'm really excited he gets to come with us to our ultrasound on Tuesday and am hoping he really enjoys being able to see the baby on the screen!

Beautiful is....

  • spending your anniversary living every day life with your husband. One of these years we will go away for our September anniversary, but every year that we spend it without frills and gifts I am so thankful for the life we have built together through God!
  • watching your husband try so hard to blame himself for you washing his cell phone in the washing machine and breaking it, and even moreso, only upset because he planned on giving you HIS phone as part of your Christmas present because he knows you love his phone so much.
  • waking up before your husband and your child and listening to Christmas worship music while baking cinnamon rolls.
  • listening to your 2.5 year old excitedly sing Happy Birthday to Jesus while blowing out the candle with his Daddy on the Christmas morning cinnamon rolls.
  • hearing your child remember to say thank you without being told...
  • seeing everyone enjoying the giving part of the Season even more than the getting part
  • opening heartfelt thoughtful gifts that make you stop for just a second and really appreciate the finer things in life like family and friends
  • the power going out for 12+ hours starting on Christmas night and cuddling on the couch by candle light with my guys
  • an extra 1.5 days off work due to a freak power outage in only my building in our entire town, and knowing those days were treasured more because the time wasn't expected
Our Christmas this year was absolutely wonderful and I am so thankful I was able to get a lot of it on video and through pictures which will be coming. I enjoyed being technology free for awhile due to the power outage, and then by choice, just enjoying soaking up time with my family. We really missed the family and friends we couldnt see this year but love each and every one of you and are so thankful for you all as well!!

Brayden's Play-yard

Why do I always look like I have no makeup on? I mean, I don't wear much but I do wear eyeshadow and mascara everyday, and have I told you lately how much I dislike my smile? Ok, sorry, look at me and my little boy :) When I see him with Mike, I think he looks SO much like him, but when I see him with me I think he looks SO much like me!

Brayden's fun little play yard courtesy of Mike's extremely hard work. Minus the propane tank (ugh how I hate it being smack dab in our yard). This is one blessed little boy!

And, playing in his play-yard that is courtesy of Daddy, now only sliding backwards thanks to Daddy! Sigh! Boys will be boys!
